Who actually needs this
Worth being precise, because this one gets bought on assumption.
Displaying gross vehicle weight is a state and permit question, not a federal marking requirement. The federal rule in 49 CFR 390.21 asks for your legal name and USDOT number. It does not ask for your weight.
Where it comes up:
- State rules for intrastate operation in some states
- Weight-based permits that carry a display condition
- Local ordinances, particularly around bridges and restricted routes
If none of those apply to you, you do not need this decal.
